Wow- I haven't written on this blog since fall of 2005! Yikes! So I have been wasting my time this afternoon and found my old blog! And I found this in the draft section. I will upload it w/o editing a thing. The only change is this brother just turned 18 a few days ago! Happy Belated Birthday to him! I was proud of him because when I went to my parent's home for his birthday, I used their computer to check my email. Justin never seems to close out his documents, you can always see what he's been working on. Of course he doesn't like me to peek, but big sisters have that right, to some extent. Anyway, I was proud of him to see that on his 18th birthday, he was in the process of completing the paperwork to register to vote!
OK, here is what I originally wrote in late October 2005:
A few weeks ago, my little brother Justin, 16 years old went to an anti-war rally in DC. Yeah! While at first I was surprised, I can now say that I am proud of him for doing this. I am not a political person and don't know much about the war in Iraq. While I have voted for Bush both times, I have had enough of it.
Yep, in 2000 I was a registered FL voter, but I was living in Mississippi while completing my professional fieldwork. So I voted for Bush via absentee ballot. I even sent in by priority mail.
I am not here to criticize Bush. I just can't stand the thought of this war going on for years and years. But I am just tired of hearing about these young soldiers being killed and wounded. Too many will go through life with amputations, head injuries or other disabling conditions. Too many children won't have their parents and parents their children. Too many women have lost their husband. It is enough. I know they went to help.
My mom told me about something where the government was demanding $800 payment from injured soldiers. Well, what about the fact they will have to live w/these serious disabilities for the remainder of their lives. I do feel guilty that I am not doing enough to help, other then helping organize some donations to recovering soldiers last year. But this multitude of untimely deaths has to end soon. Please.
