Today (rather yesterday), I thoroughly enjoyed attending the service auction associated at the singles ward that I sometimes visit. I was surprised by the diversity of talents and services shared, and I enjoyed observing the competitive nature of the bidders!
One item I'd hoped to get was a car detail- but no luck. The bidding started at a point value above what I had...I belive 1000 points. Another service I hoped to get was 3 hours of yard work but I was outbid on that as well!
As for what I gave: it was an item for the silent auction, an Easter gift basket complete with a book, bookmark, Easter-themed handtowel and a good supply of chocolate. Three people bid on it and it went for 80 points!
I was especially happy to win the silent auction item that I won. I kept my eye on bid. Originally I thought that might be a nice item to give to one of the sisters I visit teach. But then I saw that one of the leaders in that ward had bid on that same item. So a plan was borne and I altered my plan- I hoped to win the bid and give it to this very kind and loving individual as a means of thanking them. I went back twice to update that bid. I thought I won. Then I started talking to a friend and did one last check of the bid. Someone had outbid my last bid by one point! So just as they were ending the silent auction and doing a countdown "10-9-8-7.." I rebid and quickly wrote in the new winning bid! (I think it was as they were calling 5-4-3-2-1)!! It was certainly a close call! I was happy to win that item to be able to give that item to the person, this individual stated they hadn't bid much in wanting others to win items.
Anyway, it was a fun evening!! Plus they had delicious cream puffs!
