I often drop my cell phone, usually when I am holding other things. Then a couple months ago, on a rainy day, I dropped it on the pavement. Ever since then, the battery hasn't been working properly. It will turn off on its own, even though it is fully charged.
The most magnificent change is that the battery now allows me to engage in some time travel!
Well, sort of- sometimes when I turn the phone on, it now shows the date and time as "December 31, 1999 at 7PM". At that moment in time, I was sitting with my younger sister Lori, we were on the grounds of the National Mall in DC. We were enjoying sitting along with thousands of others as we waited for a concert to begin that would welcome in the year 2000 and whatever crazy things might occur.
Then within a second, the cell phone date and time fast forwards to 2007, to the correct date and time. It is fascinating to travel over 7.3 years in just an instant! Incredible. It causes me to reflect on the last 7 years of my life. I've grown, Lori's grown. For example, back then she was a high school sophomore. Now she is in her last semester of graduate school to get a degree in special education. Back then she was a dedicated track athlete, now she has inspired me with her persevearance in having completed the Marine Corp Marathon.
They say that man's time isn't the same as Heavenly Father's divine time. They say that our earthlife might seem so long to us but is really just a split second in His time. Somehow this experience with the cell phone battery makes me think of Heavenly Father's timing and appreciate it in a way that I haven't previously. Hopefully the next time I am in the midst of what seems like a long drawn out struggle or challenge, I will try to remember that someday that struggle will be over. I will try to remember Heavenly Father's sense of time and that someday I will look back on that struggle and that it will appear to be over in an instant.
