Birthday Party

Last month a friend asked me to accompany her young elementary age daughter to a birthday party of one of her child's classmates. My friend had another committment, and I felt honored that she would ask me to do this.

The party was held at a local (floral nursery) where they had lots of fun Halloween stuff for the kids- a slide w/Hanted creatures, things to climb, moon bounces, etc Upon arriving at the party, the children enjoyed those activities, followed by pizza, gifts and cake.

What I most appreciated about this party was the kind reception at the party. The truth is that I had been a little nervous, I'm not a parent and felt some apprehension about hanging out with a bunch of parents at the party. For instance, I didn't know how closely to follow the child around the party. I know that stress was due to my own self-induced feelings of not belonging. Luckily all of the parents there were very kind. Thankfully a couple of the ladies were extra friendly and allowed me to hang out w/them as we followed the kids around. The experience reminded me of the friendship I enjoyed when I worked with the activity day girls at church.

One of the most intriguing activities at the nursery was a motorized toilet seat. You sit on it give it gas and it goes around a ciruclar area, it sort of resembled a mini rollar rink. One kid got on the motorized toilet seat and went really fast. Thus his mom proceeded to chase him down the path, gently yelling for him to slow down. As we were leaving, I went up to that  lady and wished her well when her son learns to drive a car in a few years! I tell you that poor lady is going to have a hard time!

I also observed a toddler who dived headfirst into the pit of balls. As he dived in to the pit of balls, his dad exclaimed, " Be Careful Bubba". It made me think of how Heavenly Father wants each of us to be careful in our life and our choices and decisions. Still, in truth that while it is touching that Bubba's dad loves him so, I did kind of feel sorry for a toddler who is already dubbed Bubba! What a dreadful nickname!

Over all, a delightful afternoon!
