All In A Day's Work

As I go through my day at work, here are some random things I want to remember from a recent day.

~ I like asking my patients how they met their spouse. Maybe someday I can steal their idea! But seriously, I enjoy asking this. So I asked one gentleman and he told me how he met his spouse- they've been married over 60 years. He smiled and his eyes twinkled as he recalled his first meeting w/his spouse! Later when I saw his spouse, I told her how he had shared a little of their first meeting.

~ On the same day, I saw someone else's spouse in tears. In this case her beloved housband had passed away a little while ago. So this lady was dropping in to say hello to people. She was going around giving us all hugs.

~ I helped a man with a severe neurological condition get out his wheelchair. In so doing, I discovered that he has been sitting on several skittles! So I told him: "you've been sitting on skittles". His reply to me:  "you can have some if you want!" I said: "not if you've been sitting on them!" He responded back: "my bottom's not dirty!" Love it!!

~ I recently worked with a lady who saw Hitler during the Olympics way back when. Amazing! Weird to thing that I've met someone who has personally seen such an evil man. I learned from her family member this person helped in the resistance and did much to escape with young children in tow. It is good to learn about people's life, not just current state of physical debilitation due to receiving rehab in nursing home land!

Things like this make me so frustrated with myself for complaining about my lot in life.

I want to be more valiant, I want to be stronger. Our challenge now is to do our best to fight Satan, and to be good at resisting the tempations of the world. Of course this needs to be done in a happy manner sans complaint.

Every day is so similar in nursing home land yet so different. Yeah there are always people at the worst times in their lives. I often tell people I wish I could have met them in a happier circumstance of life.

Yet despite the reason for meeting them, I am grateful for the things I learn from them about how to live life.
